CONTROLLED THERMAL WELLNESS

What Is Moxa Therapy (Moxibustion)?

Moxa therapy, or moxibustion, is a traditional complementary thermal therapy in which gentle, controlled heat generated from prepared moxa is applied to or near selected areas of the body.

Moxa is prepared from the dried leaves of the herb Artemisia vulgaris (commonly known as mugwort). Unlike massage which relies on pressure, moxibustion works through soothing, deep-penetrating warmth that helps relax cold, tense tissues and promote deep relaxation.

  • Indirect Heat Application: Held at a safe, controlled distance from the skin.
  • Soothing & Calming: Gentle warmth designed for deep relaxation without harsh burning.
  • Ventilated In-Home Care: Proper room preparation to manage herbal aroma and smoke safely.

TECHNIQUES WE USE

Different Forms of Moxibustion

Moxa Stick Therapy

Moxa herb rolled into cigar-like sticks, ignited and held at a measured distance over wellness points to deliver soothing radiant heat safely.

Indirect Warming

Heat is transferred through an insulating barrier or medium, preventing direct contact with the skin and ensuring comfortable thermal regulation.

Smokeless / Low-Smoke

Carbonized moxa sticks specially formulated to minimize smoke and strong herbal odours, perfect for apartments and sensitive clients.

Heat & Fire Safety in Home Moxibustion

Because moxa involves heat and combustion, safety precautions are strictly enforced during every doorstep visit:

Continuous distance and temperature monitoring by the practitioner
Burning moxa is never left unattended at any point
Metal extinguisher snuffer used for safe, instantaneous flame extinguishment
Treatment area must have an open window or adequate airflow
HEALTH DISCLOSURES

Who Requires Extra Caution?

Reduced Heat Sensation

Individuals with diabetic neuropathy or numbness must disclose this so lower temperatures can be used.

Asthma & Smoke Sensitivity

Clients with respiratory sensitivities should request smokeless moxa and ensure cross-ventilation.

Pregnancy

Always inform the practitioner regarding pregnancy so unsuitable abdominal/lumbar points are avoided.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Moxa Therapy FAQs

Does moxa therapy hurt or burn?

No. The goal of modern home moxibustion is pleasant, comfortable warmth. The moxa stick is maintained at a safe distance from your skin. If the heat ever feels too warm, inform the practitioner immediately to adjust the distance.

Does moxa produce smoke or odour?

Traditional moxa produces a distinct herbal aroma and mild smoke. We ensure windows are open for proper airflow. We also carry smokeless moxa options for smoke-sensitive clients.

How long does a home moxa session take?

A typical moxibustion session lasts 40 to 50 minutes, depending on the number of areas being warmed and the client's individual heat tolerance.

Can moxa therapy cure medical diseases?

Moxa therapy is a complementary heat-relaxation wellness practice. It is not a guaranteed medical cure and should never replace qualified clinical diagnosis or prescribed medical treatment.
